Trump signs executive order pledging US security guarantees to Qatar

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order committing to the defense of Qatar, declaring that any armed attack against the Gulf nation will be considered a threat to the peace and security of the United States.

The move follows an Israeli airstrike launched on Doha on September 9, which targeted  Hamas political figures staying in the city for negotiations on U.S.-brokered ceasefire proposal.

The strikes resulted in the deaths of five Palestinians and one Qatari security officer, spawning widespread international condemnation.
