The chief American diplomat’s meetings are also meant to signal that Washington remains committed to regional diplomacy, despite intensifying criticism of Israeli tactics.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Gulf neighbors — including the United Arab Emirates, which normalized ties with Israel in 2020 under the Abraham Accords — have rallied behind Doha. The UAE summoned the Israeli deputy ambassador and condemned Netanyahu’s remarks as “hostile,” declaring that Qatar’s stability is vital to regional security.
The Arab-Islamic summit underway in Doha, attended by members of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, aims to coordinate a regional response.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit emphasized that “Qatar is not alone,” and the summit seeks to adopt a unified stance against what many see as a violation of Qatari sovereignty.
