U.S. President Donald Trump said Sunday that American forces had destroyed nine Iranian naval vessels and were continuing operations against additional targets.
“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk nine Iranian naval ships, some of them relatively large and important,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
However, the president did not identify the type of naval ships destroyed in the U.S. strikes.
The remarks came amid escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran. The U.S. launched a large-scale military campaign on Saturday that it said targeted senior Iranian leadership, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as well as top military commanders.
Tehran has retaliated by striking U.S. military bases in the Gulf region and launching missile attacks on Israel, according to regional officials.
Trump also said U.S. forces had “largely destroyed” Iran’s naval headquarters and warned that additional naval assets would be targeted.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the United States has deployed Northrop B-2 Spirit bombers to strike underground weapons facilities, including missile storage sites.
The situation marks a significant escalation in tensions, raising concerns of broader regional conflict.
