President Donald Trump said Sunday hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for talks at his Florida resort and spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on peace plan to end the nearly four-year-old conflict.
The U.S. has been holding talks with both parties on moving forward a 20-point peace plan, with the warring countries sticking to their positions on territorial discords and security issues.
Welcoming Zelenskyy for talks at his Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump felt that both the Ukrainian and Russian leaders want peace.
“The two leaders want it to end,” Trump said.
The U.S. president noted that Zelenskyy “has worked very hard, and is very brave, and his people are very brave.”
After meeting with the Ukrainian president, Trump plans to call Putin and talk to European leaders on the way forward on his peace plan.
“It’ll either end or it’s going to go on for a long time and millions of additional people will be killed,” Trump said of the conflict.
Before traveling to the United States for discussions with President Trump, Zelenskyy said the U.S.-brokered 20-point peace plan was “about 90% ready.”
He told journalists Ukraine will discuss the question of U.S. security guarantees.
U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators have held several rounds of talks on the 20-point peace plan and also revised it as per Kyiv’s suggestions.
