A comprehensive new poll finds that Democratic Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani leads his electoral rivals with a double-digit margin, three months ahead of the election. NYC
New York City residents revealed their clear-cut preference for the 33-year-old rising politician over four competing candidates in the poll conducted by Zenith Research and Public Progress Solutions from July 16 to July 24. NYC
Mamdani is ahead among New Yorkers of all races, income brackets, education levels, genders, and major religions, as per opinions of 1,453 New Yorkers who responded to specific questions for the poll. NYC
The poll appears to be in line with Mamdani’s rapid ascent and voters’ trend for backing the candidate who highlights the most pressing issues facing the New Yorkers. NYC
A self-described democratic socialist, Mamdani’s stunning dominance is built around his massive grassroots campaign through participatory activism across the five boroughs.
In the current field of five candidates, Mamdani steers unambiguously ahead with 50 percent of support, more than combined level of support his four rivals garner among undecided likely voters that stood at 49 percent.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo lags Mamdani with 22 percent, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa is third at 13 percent, Mayor Eric Adams secures 7 percent of the vote among likely voters while Attorney Jim Walden trails everyone with a 1 percent vote.
“Our independent poll — the first in this cycle to be offered in four languages and to drill down into national origin and religious denomination — makes one thing clear: Black union households, young Jews, South Asians, East Asians, Latinos, and New Yorkers in every income bracket are all on the same Zohran Mamdani bus, and it’s headed in the direction of the Democratic Party’s future,” said Amit Singh Bagga, the principal of Public Progress Solutions and a veteran of federal, city, and state government.

Here are two of the most salient findings of the poll as released by the two companies:
Mamdani is the clear favorite regardless of which combination of candidates he faces, hitting at least 50% each time.
Mamdani is the only candidate with a positive net favorability rating.
Remarkably, Zohran Mamdani performs much better among likely voters than registered voters, likely due to stronger enthusiasm from his base and a 2025 general electorate that is likely to draw in younger and more college-educated than in past NYC municipal elections.
Even among registered voters, a majority (52%) would not consider voting for NY Governor Andrew M Cuomo, who lost to Mamdani in the Democratic primary. That means it will be difficult for Cuomo to make a match of Mamdani’s popularity because of the Assemblyman’s near-universal name recognition.
According to the poll, Adams currently has no path to victory, as he is extremely unpopular across nearly all subgroups.

The findings make it abundantly clear that if Sliwa stays in the race as contender, Cuomo or Adams have no prospects for victory in the contest.
Significantly, Mamdani’s leads in every borough except Staten Island; Cuomo leads in none of the New York boroughs.
Zohran Mamdani performs the best in Brooklyn (+41) and Manhattan (+32).
Mamdani continues to dominate across several age, ethnic and religious groups with LGBTQ+ voters (+58), Jews under age 45 (+56), reform and secular Jews (+34), Latino and Black college+ (+51 and +50), Central and South American Latinos (+52), Black union households (+40), and Latinos overall (+30), among dozens of other subgroups.
Besides, Mamdani is also the only candidate the majority of people polled (58%) would consider voting for in the November 4 election.
