“Love and the Light,” a poem by Ali Imran

How fondly does the moon hang

Around New Year’s Eve

In all her celestial mystery!

Who will not wonder in awe

Of her splendor

From my earthly abode

That also shines for distant worlds.

But unaware

That here driving darkness away

Needs so much of light

In all its abundance

All its brightness

Ah the premium

That redeeming moments put on

Demanding each soul

To endure so much.

Who can emulate the moon

if it is the heart of light —

Subtle and expressive too.

How may I breathe in

The freshest rays

Of light

From the far horizon

Immerse them in my restless human heart,

Share them from heart-to-heart

To be gleamed into

The ultimate love bond —

Inseparable

Timeless

Boundless —

Beyond my raw impressions

Of space and time?
